Anthony's South Island Adventure!

When I'm not spending time on Majestic Quartz or with my family, I'm known to pursue my "other" hobby, Motorcycle racing! See photo below. This was taken at the Wanganui cemetery street circuit on 12/26/06. Yes, you read that correctly, this racetrack goes around the Wanganui city cemetery! They have stacks of coffins at each corner just in case you don't make it! ;-) (OK, that last part may not be strictly true!)

This is the Kawasaki ZX10R I'm sponsored to race.

I also race this older ZXR750 in the post classic class, I won the Actrix 6 round championship on this bike.

OK, that's it for the bike photos, so you can relax now! I went to a racetrack right at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand. On the way, I took a range of photos, usually from the moving van through the windshield! (We racers are always in a hurry you know!)

By the time I'd got up on deck on the ferry going to the South Island, We were already leaving Wellington harbor. Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand.

This is the exit into Cook Straight! Our destination for the ferry is Picton in the South Island 3.5 hours away!

OK, here we are in the South Island. These are called the Marlborough Sounds. This is a mussel farm.

More bays in the Marlborough Sounds.

These houses are only accessible by boat!

Aha, Picton Ahoy!

Entry to Picton Harbor

We will be heading out through those ranges soon!

Right, we are on the road in the van now!

This is Blenheim It is one of the wine producing regions in New Zealand. As you can see the hills are very dry here.

Here we are on State Highway one and yes, this is a bridge where cars take the single lane below and the trains take the tracks above, on the same bridge!

On said Bridge!

Racing the train to the next town, that being Kaikoura.

Here is some of the bush line heading towards Kaikoura.

A view of a rocky cove, I actually managed to get out the van for this photo!

The Kaikoura Coast

This is Kaikoura, it is the place to come and see the huge sperm whales swimming close to shore!

Yes, The south Island even has one way tunnels to go with the one way bridges!

Another Rocky cove!

Snowy Mountain Ranges!

Oamaru is famous for it's limestone. Here is a great example of it, it is in excellent condition and stands as shown ;-)

Here is a great shot of the side rear view mirror on the van, pity the Dunedin Railway station had to ruin the photo!

OK, we are getting very close to Invercargill at the bottom of the South Island now! Another Beautiful sandy bay!

OK, one more bike photo! This is at the Teratonga race track in Invercargill.

OK, we are heading north again, check out these hedges sculpted into animals, these are in someone's back yard!

ROCKS!!! YEEE HAAA :-) There is a special beach called Moeraki that has these naturally rounded boulders, they are in fact HUGE Geodes!!!

A scale photo!

The day after I had made it to the Corromandal Peninsula some 800 miles away in the North Island where I stopped and snapped this waterfall!

That's the end of my pictorial blog. I'll get some more North Island photos in the future and do a North Island Pictorial blog! Bye for now!
